Akon Fabricating Criminal Past?
Is Akon conning his fans? According to the Smoking Gun site, the rapper-producer has "exaggerated" his criminal past of being a ringleader of a notorious car-theft gang and serving three years in prison. The website's investigation reveals that Akon was only convicted of one gun-possession felony and was sentenced to three years' probation. The only time Akon did spend time in jail was a five-month stint in 1999 after Atlanta police busted him for driving a stolen BMW. Akon's reps had no comment on the matter.
